Truckers plan convoy to extend strike agreement

Port truckers are planning a cavalcade from Surrey to Vancouver today to press for an extension to the agreement that ended their strike in 2005.Truckers want the agreement worked out by mediator Vince Ready extended for a year, Paul Johal, president of the Vancouver Container Truckers Association, said yesterday.

VANOC chairman Jack Poole has had surgery to remove a tumour on his pancreas and his doctors expect a full recovery, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Organizing Committee said yesterday.The surgery Thursday was led by Charles Scudamore, head of pancreatic surgery at the University of British Columbia.

A convenience store clerk in Vancouver was robbed not once, but twice during the same night shift - by the same person.A woman was working at the 7-Eleven in the 2000 block of East Hastings Street on Wednesday, when a man came in and asked for cigarettes. He left, then returned brandishing a knife and demanded money.

Vancouver restaurants that serve raw oysters are being told to tell customers about the dangers of eating uncooked shellfish.Vancouver Coastal Health is asking restaurants to display cards warning consumers about the risk of illness associated with eating raw oysters and to include an advisory or label in their menus.

A man who police said earned a living working odd jobs collapsed and died on Douglas Street at Fisgard yesterday. Paramedics performed CPR on the man, who could not be revived. The man was one week shy of his 53rd birthday.
