The RCMP have called off the search for a climber who fell into a crevasse on Mount Slesse near Chilliwack on Saturday.Search and rescue crews consider the area too unsafe right now because of shifting ground and ice, as well as the steepness of the terrain.

Treacherous conditions yesterday on a high mountain overlooking the Fraser Valley hampered efforts to search for a climber missing on Mount Slesse.The man, a resident of Abbotsford, B.C., is said to be an experienced mountaineer. He was short-rope climbing with a partner on the mountain Saturday when he was hit by a falling block of ice and fell into a crevasse.

A failed refugee claimant, left disabled from an aneurysm, has dodged another deportation order by moving into a Sikh temple in the Fraser Valley city of Abbotsford.Laibar Singh, 48, who is paralyzed, in a wheelchair and needs regular dialysis treatment, left a Vancouver long-term care centre over the weekend for the sanctuary of the Kalgidhar temple in Abbotsford, about an hour's drive east of Vancouver.
