Union awaits ruling on essential services

The city of Vancouver sent a formal letter yesterday urging the union that represents the city's outside workers to come back to the bargaining table instead of striking.''We've only been bargaining with them since the start of the year and we've indicated there's still flexibility and room for movement,'' city spokesman Jerry Dobrovolny said.

In the muck of a wetland atop a mountain at West Vancouver's Cypress Provincial Park, volunteer gardeners gently tug at the butterwort plants. The plants have to move out, so to speak, to make way for a water reservoir needed for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
