Trying to keep his drunk-driving arrest quiet was Stevenson's second mistake

Sunday 22 July 2007
Vancouver Councillor Tim Stevenson is not known as much of a day-tripper. When he travels on council business, he prefers the faraway eyes of foreign climes.Perhaps he believes long-distance jaunts are less prone to trouble. After all, it was just a short trip of eight or nine blocks that got Mr. Stevenson into serious hot water last year. After quaffing a few at a West End pub, he decided to drive home. Luckily, police stopped his vehicle before the councillor could do any damage. His breathalyzer reading was 0.14, and Mr. Stevenson was properly charged with impaired driving. This week, he pleaded guilty. (Globe Insider subscribers only)
