Of all the cliches the rest of the country likes to repeat about the West Coast, the Birkenstock/Gore-Tex thing has certainly had staying power. As a Toronto-raised, Vancouver-based fashion editor, surfer and snowboarder, I have to wonder, why don't they get it back home?

B.C trucker arrested at border over hidden pot

A Chilliwack man has been arrested at the Blaine border crossing after U.S. Customs agents found nearly 200 kilograms of marijuana in the trailer of a transport truck.Corey Darryl Wirsz faces federal U.S. charges after his truck was sent through a gamma-ray scanner, and Customs agents found the pot in vacuum-packed bags under the floorboards of the trailer.

Vancouver police have arrested a ''professional panhandler'' accused of robbing and throwing to the ground a 79-year-old man who regularly handed him $5 outside a downtown church.Darcy Lance Jones, a 43-year-old Vancouver man who has a fixed address, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, just one block away from Holy Rosary Cathedral where he allegedly snatched the wallet of Peter Collins, a retired surgeon.
